The Art of Staying
In these vertical villages, your choice of bed is a choice of perspective. Each accommodation tells a different story – from the salt-spray of ancient harbors to the silence of terraced vineyards high above the sea.
Where to
Wake Up
The Logic of the Stay
Across all five villages, you’ll discover guesthouses, family-run inns, and converted fisherman’s homes that have welcomed travelers for generations. The walls are thick, the staircases narrow, and the views extraordinary.
Each village offers a distinct character: Monterosso for beaches, Vernazza for harbor charm, Corniglia for vineyard views, Manarola for sunset magic, Riomaggiore for authentic village life.
Cinque Terre does not have hotels in the way the world usually understands them. There are no grand lobbies, no sprawling resorts, and very few elevators. What you will find is something far more precious.
We present these stays not as rankings, but as a curated collection of perspectives. Each offers a different relationship with the coast – some at the pulse of harbor life, others in the quiet of the hills.
Choose based on what kind of morning you wish to wake up to. The right accommodation transforms a visit into an experience that lingers long after you’ve returned home.

Insider Advice
Every stay in Cinque Terre is a negotiation with gravity. The higher you go, the quieter it gets and the better the views – but the more stairs you climb. The lower you stay, the closer you are to the action. There is no wrong answer, only a question of what kind of tired you prefer.
The Vertical Trade-off
Sunset Magic
Famous for its dramatic cliffside setting and the most spectacular sunsets. Accommodations here offer front-row seats to nature’s daily show of golden light.
Manarola
Golden hour, every evening
Authentic Village Life
The gateway village with the strongest local character. Tower houses climb impossible slopes, and the harbor still serves working fishermen alongside visitors.
Riomaggiore
Where the coast begins
Which village is best for first-time visitors?
Monterosso offers the most amenities and beach access, making it ideal for families. Vernazza provides the quintessential Cinque Terre experience with its photogenic harbor. For authentic atmosphere with fewer tourists, consider Riomaggiore or Manarola.
How far in advance should I book accommodation?
For peak season (June-September), book 3-6 months ahead. Shoulder seasons (April-May, October) require 4-6 weeks advance booking. Winter visitors can often book just 1-2 weeks ahead, though some properties close seasonally.
Are there accessibility considerations I should know about?
All five villages present significant accessibility challenges due to steep terrain and historic construction. Monterosso is the most accessible with flatter areas near the beach. Contact accommodations directly about elevator access, as very few properties have lifts.
What should I expect regarding luggage transport?
Pack light – you’ll likely carry your bags up many stairs. Some accommodations offer luggage collection from the train station. Porters are available in larger villages. Wheeled luggage is impractical on cobblestones and stairs.
Planning Your Cinque Terre Stay
A Final Thought
Wherever you choose to wake up in Cinque Terre, remember this: the view from your window will stay with you longer than the thread count of your sheets.
Choose the perspective that moves you. The rest is just logistics.
